IPL 2018: MS Dhoni Shows Age Is Just A Number, Finishes Off In Style

Keep calm and trust Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The former India captain once again showed that age is just a number for him. Dhoni blazed his way to a 34-ball 70 to power Chennai Super Kings to a thrilling five-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Thursday. Chasing a massive total of 206 runs, Dhoni was at his explosive best, blasting seven sixes as the visitors won with five wickets and two deliveries to spare clash at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. CSK needed 16 runs in the last over and Dhoni hit a six to see his team through. Dhoni remained not out on 70 runs and was well supported by Ambati Rayudu, who slammed four boundaries and eight sixes in his 53-ball 83 runs knock.

Gautam Gambhir steps down as Delhi Daredevils captain, Shreyas Iyer to lead

‘I couldn’t handle the pressure’, he says; the team is at the bottom of the IPL table

Cricketer Gautam Gambhir on Wednesday stepped down as Delhi Daredevils captain, saying he just could not handle the pressure of the job.
Shreyas Iyer replaced him in the position but Gambhir will continue to be a part of the team that has lost five of its six matches so far and is placed bottom of the table at the eighth position.
“May be I was too desparate to turn things around and that can backfire. It could be the reason. I just couldn’t handle the pressure and when you don’t do that, you have to own that up as a leader,” Gambhir said in a press conference also attended by franchise CEO Hemant Dua and coach Ricky Ponting.
“I was sitting alone and thinking, I couldn’t handle the pressure... I was not good enough and that is all,” he added.
The 23-year-old Shreyas is a top-order batsman and has scored two back-to-back half centuries in losing causes.

Preview : CSK vs RCB

What

The Chennai Super Kings will see Match 24 of VIVO IPL 2018 as an opportunity to return to the top of the standings when they take on the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

CSK have four wins from five matches, including a four-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in their most-recent outing. RCB languish in the bottom half of the table with just two wins from five matches. However, in their most recent outing, RCB defeated the Delhi Daredevils riding on AB de Villiers’ brilliance.

CSK have found a combination which works and their players have delivered at crucial times, clinching those match-defining moments. They have taken the game deep and have prevailed in 3 last-over finishes.

In a brief format such as T20 cricket, successful teams are generally the ones who are able to set early momentum and dominate their opposition right through. RCB’s problems start at the top; the aggregate of their opening partnerships in their five matches is 72 runs. They will need their opening pair to click, and given the build of their team, they need one of their top three to go big. They also need one of their middle order or lower middle-order batsmen to make big scores, should opportunity present itself.

When

25 April 2018, 2000Hrs (IST)

Where

M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

Impact Batsmen

This match will see the IPL’s top two run-getters pitted against each other; CSK’s Suresh Raina tops the list at the moment, while the RCB captain Virat Kohli trails him by 9 runs. Raina comes into this match with the confidence of an unbeaten half-century behind him – though the 54 not out against SRH wasn’t his most fluent innings. Kohli is RCB’s top run-getter this season and will hope to get among the runs yet again.

And then, there’s the superhumanAB de Villiers, who blitzed away the last time he walked to the crease. Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu have taken turns to fire in the last couple of matches; Rayudu made a 37-ball 79 the last time he batted, while Watson has played two good innings – including the century against the Rajasthan Royals.

Impact Bowlers

Umesh Yadav has had good days and bad days in the office; he has been particularly good with the new ball, but has been taken for runs when he has returned for later spells. For CSK, Deepak Chahar has been impressive with the new ball; he has provided the team with the early breakthroughs.

The quicks will be expected to do their bit and set it up for the likes of YuzvendraChahal and Pawan Negi (RCB) and Ravindra Jadeja, Karn Sharma and Harbhajan Singh (CSK) to do their bit;the surface at the Chinnaswamy Stadium is expected to play slow and low, and therefore one can expect plenty of work for the spinners.

MS Dhoni’s record in IPL matches in Bengaluru: Innings – 8, Runs – 309, Average – 61.80, Strike Rate – 177.58.

Virat Kohli, who has scored more runs against CSK than against any other opposition, needs to score 18 more runs to complete 2000 IPL runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

IPL 2018: SRH to Miss Bhuvneshwar Kumar Against Mumbai Indians
Mumbai: Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson informed that pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar all set to miss the IPL encounter against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday.

According to team sources, the pace spearhead is suffering from a niggling back injury and has been advised rest.

"Bhuvi did not travel with the team and is not playing the next match. Shikhar we are hoping will be fine," Williamson told a select group of reporters here.

Dhawan had suffered a hit in the elbow during Sunrisers' match against Kings XI Punjab and missed the CSK game.

Sunrisers Hyderabad are fourth on the table having won three of their five games and lost the remaining two.

Williamson also said that Yusuf Pathan is likely to get fit having suffered from cramps during the CSK game.

"I am not 100 per cent sure on how Yusuf is. I know he did have some cramps but hopefully he will be ok and come tomorrow night," added Williamson.

The SRH and New Zealand skipper also expressed confidence that Afghanistan leg spinner Rashid Khan will bounce back after poor show against KXIP and CSK having hone for 55 and 49 runs respectively.

"Rashid is a world class bowler. T20 cricket does not make exemptions for any bowler to escape pressure. Any bowler can be hit, so that's the nature of the game and I suppose he has learn a huge amount in such a short period of time.

"Last couple of games, it is been a couple of special knocks, (from) people, who have played Rashid nicely but he is a world class bowler and will bounce back well. You need to embrace those challenges and I know he will," Williamson said.

IPL 2018: Kings XI Punjab pile more misery on struggling Delhi Daredevils with 4-run victory in thrilling encounter

Kings XI Punjab emerged winner by four runs as embattled Delhi Daredevils' woeful run of form in the Indian Premier League continued despite a change in venue and many changes in the team in New Delhi on Monday.
A heavily-rejigged Daredevils produced a much-improved bowling performance to restrict Kings XI Punjab to 143 for eight but the visitors staged a strong comeback to stop Delhi at 139 for eight.

Kings XI Punjab prevailed over Delhi Daredevils in a nail biter in the IPL.
Shreyas Iyer tried his bit with 57 off 45 balls, but that was not enough, as the trio of Ankit Rajpoot, Andrew Tye and Mujeeb ur Rahman picked up two wickets apiece to derail Daredevils' chase.
The hosts were off to a brisk start with the highly-talented Prithvi Shaw eking out a few boundaries, including one fine shot through point.
But, while going for one too many, the youngster lost his wicket to pacer Ankit Rajpoot, who bowled with fire to return figures of 2/23 in four overs.
Rajpoot followed that up by claiming the big fish Glenn Maxwell (12), and the Daredevils' chase seemed to be floundering when skipper Gautam Gambhir (4), looking woefully out of form, got a leading edge to make the long walk back to the dugout.
Daredevils were 48 for three at the end of the six powerplay overs, and Punjab could sniff another victory after making their way back into the match.
The onus was on the in-form Rishabh Pant (4) and Shreyas Iyer, both coming off smashing half centuries, but 17-year-old spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman from Afghanistan had other ideas as he struck with his very first ball, his carrom ball making its way through the gap between bat and pad.
Daredevils struggled to break the shackles and the situation became worse when Daniel Christian was run out by a brilliant throw from the deep by Mayank Agwarwal.
The home team needed 43 runs in the last four overs and, to everyone's surprise, it was Rahul Tewatia, who brought the equation down to 28 off 18 after he gleefully smashed Barinder Sran's overpitched offering straight over the bowler's head, picking 17 runs in total.
Tye dismissed Tewatia (24 off 21 balls) as Daredevils needed 21 in the last two overs. Plunkett came and went back for a golden duck, leaving Daredevils with an arduous task of scoring 17 in six balls. Delhi failed to do so despite Iyer whacking Mujeeb for a straight six and a four.
Earlier, opting to field after winning the toss, Daredevils quickly snuffed out the wicket of Aaron Finch through Avesh Khan.
Entering the game as a beleaguered unit, the bottom-placed Daredevils made as many as five changes, including handing out IPL debuts to Liam Plunkett and the young Prithvi Shaw.
And what a debut it turned out to be for Plunkett, who returned terrific figures of 3/17 in his full quota of four overs. Trent Boult and Avesh Khan had two wickets apiece.
The move to make many changes worked as the hosts managed to keep the in-form Kings XI Punjab to a modest total.
The rampaging Chris Gayle was forced to sit out the game due to a sore back and his absence was certainly felt by Kings XI Punjab.
Playing in his maiden IPL game, Plunkett impressed on this occasion as he foxed KL Rahul with a slower off-cutter, handing Delhi the momentum with the big wicket at the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium.
The Kotla was packed but one of the stands, which failed to meet SDMC norms, wore a deserted look.
Before Rahul's dismissal meanwhile, Khan banged one short and Finch's miscued pull went to Shreyas Iyer.
It wasn't a very bad start as far as net run rate was concerned, but KXIP suffered another blow, as Plunkett uprooted Mayank Agarwal's stumps after beating him for pace.
Veteran Yuvraj Singh looked tentative in his 17-ball 14, and his struggle ended when he under-edged an attempted pull off Avesh Khan to Rishabh Pant.
